Engagement Tours Offer Opportunity to Visit Innovative Organizations

The Community Advisory Group (CAG) is excited to offer delegates the opportunity to see first-hand the work of some innovative Kuala Lumpur-based organizations through the Engagement Tours. Following the success and positive evaluations at previous IAS conferences, this year’s CAG has found four very interesting organizations where conference delegates can receive a guided tour – free of charge and limited to one tour per delegate. WAKE 3 Shelter - The Women and Health Association of Kuala Lumpur (Tour A) is the first and only shelter in Malaysia for the transgender community infected with HIV and other illness who have no family support and or are homeless. Activities provided by this home are basic nursing care, medical referrals, treatment literacy and adherence programmes and peer counselling. This tour leaves on Tuesday 2 July at 10.45 and will return to the KLCC around 13.00.

NSEP (Needle & Syringe Exchange Programme) - Persatuan Insaf Murni Malaysia (Tour B), remains on the front line of the harm reduction approach to reduce HIV vulnerability among injecting drug users. Objectives of the organization include promoting research activities in the field of drug addiction, providing treatment, medical and psychosocial rehabilitation, psychosocial counselling and treatment. This tour leaves on Tuesday 2 July at 10.45 and will return to the KLCC around 13.00.

The Cure & Care 1Malaysia Clinic (Tour C) provides open access services to people who use drugs, their families and employers. Placement services include inpatient residential programmes, outpatient support, medical detoxification, drug substitution therapy, referral and advocacy. The broad range of services is provided by a specialized team of Medical Professionals, Addiction Specialists and trained Addiction Counselors. This tour leaves on Wednesday 3 July at 10.45 and will return to the KLCC around 13.00.

PT Foundation - Ikhlas Injecting Drug User Programme (Tour D) is a community-based, voluntary, non-profit making organization providing HIV/AIDS education, prevention, care and support programmes, sexuality awareness and empowerment programmes for vulnerable communities in Malaysia.  The Ikhlas Injecting Drug User programme is one of the 5 programmes at PT Foundation which aims at addressing the pressing needs of the street based drug user community provides materials, care and support services relating to HIV/AIDS & drug use. This tour leaves on Wednesday 3 July at 10.45. Three sites will be visited on the tour therefore participants will be back at the KLCC around 13.30.
