IAS 2013 Conference Delegates could offset their carbon emission by ticking a box on the registration form. All donations given by IAS 2013 conference delegates will support two differet projects: Moving Mountains and Township

Township NPO is a Cape Town-based non-profit organization dedicated to the development of sustainable jobs for women from township communities primarily in the textile, fashion accessories-related sector. Today, Township NPO programs have resulted in the set-up of seven co-operatives employing 61 women. Township NPO and Township Patterns are proud to have worked with the International AIDS Society in the past and to have been supported by them. Through empowerment and education, Township seeks to not only tackle the country’s unemployment rate, but also to raise the disadvantaged to a better standard of living for themselves and their families. Even though AIDS and HIV are such large issues in South Africa, empowering the disadvantaged creates hope for a better future.

The sewing cooperatives are the core of the business and we pride ourselves on being a great source of support for them. To live up to this goal, we have developed a more effective training schedule and hope to confront issues that are relevant to the lives and the business situations of the cooperatives. Fun is never too far behind in our interaction with the cooperatives, so we look forward to hosting our first health and nutrition workshop in April.

We would like to thank the IAS for its support through the years, as it has really enabled us to offer more to the communities with whom we work. To support one of them directly please visit: http://rkthb.co/21353. The Voorspoed cooperative is trying to gain a specific machine that will help service the surge for well-manufactured T-shirts in Cape Town. Solutions for social ills take different forms. Business and empowerment through skills development are our company’s tools and we are proud to serve the community. Follow us on Facebook for further updates on our activities: Township (Official).
